Brent's monthly drop and a cartel sanctions list close the economic week

30 Jun 2026, 7:10 pm

CNBC reported that Brent crude fell 21 percent during June 2026, the largest monthly decline since March 2020, during the Iran-United States talks. The monthly figure summed a slide that had already shown up in daily prices after the ceasefire memorandum. It was a June total, published as the month ended.

The Treasury announced sanctions on two men and nine companies accused of transportation, financial services, and real estate work for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. The list was a financial measure tied to the drug trade. It was separate from the oil waiver issued days earlier.

Scandinavian Airlines ordered more than 40 Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, called the largest investment in the company's history. The order was a fleet decision, not an oil-market intervention. It still belonged to the week's business news.

The housing bill passed by both chambers was awaiting a presidential signature as June ended. Its purpose, as described when it moved, was to lower housing costs and support affordable housing. The 85-5 Senate vote was already on the record.

Gas-driven inflation had been reported at 4.1 percent for May, a three-year high. The June drop in Brent was the later price move. Both numbers can be true because they measure different months.

Shipping through Hormuz was higher than at the start of the war and still far below pre-war levels in the previous week's tracking. June's 21 percent Brent decline is the price summary. The cartel sanctions and the SAS aircraft order are the other business decisions dated to the same turn of the month.
