Fires and collapses kill people in Lucknow, Lagos, and West Bengal
At least 15 people, including children, were killed and others injured in a fire at a commercial building in Lucknow. After that fire, Uttar Pradesh closed 59 coaching institutes found to be violating fire-safety rules. The closures were an enforcement drive, not a claim that every unsafe building had been found.
At least 15 people were killed and 10 injured when a truck plunged into a ditch between Dhaka and Tangail in Bangladesh. Five people were killed and 20 injured when a warehouse under construction collapsed in West Bengal. Nine people were killed and 27 wounded when a building collapsed in Lagos.
A small plane crashed into the China Zun tower in Beijing, killing the pilot and injuring 13 others. Three people died inside a septic tank they were trying to clean in Mundka, Delhi. Two people were killed and another injured in a plane crash in Warsaw, and at least two were injured when trains collided near Pila in Poland.
Egypt's security forces detained 87 Egyptians and 136 foreigners over illegal gold mining and smuggling along the Sudanese border. That was a law-enforcement action beside the accident list. It was not a mine collapse with a published death toll in the same item.
The Lucknow closures and the Lagos collapse were urban-safety stories. The Bangladesh truck and the West Bengal warehouse were transport and construction deaths. Beijing's plane strike on a skyscraper was an aviation accident in a dense city.
Numbers in this list are the ones given for each incident, not a combined total. Fifteen in Lucknow, fifteen on the Bangladeshi road, five in the warehouse, nine in Lagos, and one pilot in Beijing were separate counts. The 59 shut institutes were a regulatory response to the Lucknow fire.
