Ford recalls more than 741,000 vehicles over a transmission fault

30 Jun 2026, 11:20 am

Ford issued a recall of more than 741,000 vehicles in the United States, mainly F-150, Explorer, Expedition, Lincoln Aviator, and Navigator models. The fault is a transmission issue that may damage the park system. The recall was a safety order, not a voluntary service bulletin described as optional.

The number, more than 741,000, is the scale of the order. The named models are the ones the notice highlighted. The defect described is the park system risk from the transmission fault.

JAXA's Hayabusa2 spacecraft conducted a flyby of the asteroid 98943 Torifune. The flyby was a science event in the same week as the recall. It was not a sample-return landing announced that day.

The asteroid's designation, 98943 Torifune, was the target named. Hayabusa2 was the craft. No new sample mass was published with the flyby note.

Consumer recalls and deep-space flybys do not usually share a headline. They did share a week. One grounded hundreds of thousands of vehicles. The other passed an asteroid.

The Ford order is the technology-and-safety item with a clear count. The Hayabusa2 flyby is the science item with a named target. Neither depended on the World Cup or the court calendar.
