Cholera deaths in Kordofan reach 127 as Bangladesh's measles toll hits 738
Sudan's health ministry said cholera cases in West and North Kordofan had reached 911, with 127 deaths. The count covered those states in the Kordofan region. It was a war-zone outbreak total, not a clinic anecdote.
The World Health Organization had separately spoken of cholera deaths in Sudan since May in isolated areas. The 911 and 127 figures were the ministry numbers dated to the end of June. They are the ones to use for that report.
Bangladesh's health directorate said seven more children had died of measles, bringing the outbreak's death toll to 738. A complaint was filed in a Dhaka court against former interim chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, former health adviser Nur Jahan Begum, and two other officials from that ministry over their roles in the epidemic, including child deaths. The complaint and the death toll were both in the same day's health news.
France's heat-death count of more than 2,025 people between June 22 and June 28 sat beside the infectious-disease figures. Heat and infection were different causes. Both were killing people in the same calendar week of reports.
A Dar Hamar emergency room reported 800 cholera cases, including 30 deaths, in Wad Banda and Al-Nahud in West Kordofan. The Sudan Doctors Network said 200,000 people in Bara in North Kordofan faced cholera and measles, including 100 measles cases in children. Those local counts sat under the broader ministry totals.
The figures should stay attached to their sources. The ministry's 911 cases and 127 deaths are not the same line as the 800 cases in two towns. Bangladesh's 738 measles deaths are not a Sudan number. Each outbreak has its own ledger.
