Alcaraz beats Djokovic to win the Australian Open and a career Slam

1 Feb 2026, 12:15 pm

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in the men's singles final of the Australian Open. The score was 2–6, 6–2, 6–3, 7–5. The title is Alcaraz's first at the Australian Open. He became the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam in singles.

The Australian Open is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments in tennis. A career Grand Slam in singles means a player has won all four of those major championships over the course of a career. The report called Alcaraz the youngest man to finish that set and did not print his age. Djokovic, a Serbian player, was the opponent in the final, and Alcaraz was identified as Spanish.

Alcaraz lost the opening set 2–6 and then took the next three, 6–2, 6–3, and 7–5. The match therefore ran to four sets rather than three. The report did not give the length of the final in hours. It did record the set scores in full.

Earlier in the tournament, Alcaraz defeated Alexander Zverev in the men's singles semifinal. That match lasted 5 hours and 27 minutes. It was the longest semifinal in the history of the Australian Open. The semifinal result put Alcaraz into the final he later won against Djokovic.

The semifinal length was a tournament record of its own, separate from the career Grand Slam. The report did not give the set score of the Zverev match, only the winner and the duration. Zverev's nationality was not stated in the semifinal item. The final item did identify Alcaraz as Spanish and Djokovic as Serbian.

Alcaraz left the tournament with a first Australian Open title and a completed career Grand Slam as the youngest man to do so in singles. The final score against Djokovic was 2–6, 6–2, 6–3, 7–5. The semifinal that preceded it was the longest in the event's history at 5 hours and 27 minutes. Those were the results reported from the men's draw.
